According to Carus and others, the lymphatics of the inferior region of the body unite in a common reservoir, whence proceeds a double plexus, which then forms a sort of membranous sheath around the descending aorta, and, communicating superiorly with the plexus of the neck, terminates at length in the two jugular veins: What is most remarkable in this class of animals is the existence of pulsatory vesicles, or, as it were, hearts, along the course of the lymphatic vessels. This very curious discovery was made, about nearly the same time, by Muller and Panizza.
